📍 Your Recruiting Timeline

The whole journey, mapped to the NCAA calendar. Sign in and set your grad year to see exactly where you are.

Recruiting dates and events differ by sport — the playbook changes with this switch.

Pre–High School
  • Development is the priority at this stage. Recruiting activity begins later.
  • Choose a travel team for development and playing time rather than for results.
  • Begin tracking exit velocity, throwing velocity and 60 time to measure progress. Paid showcases are not necessary yet.
  • Establish academic habits early. A GPA is considerably easier to build than to repair.
  • Learn how D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO differ. Visiting campuses and attending college games costs nothing and is the fastest way to understand the levels.
  • A social profile started now can be developed without pressure, well before it matters.
  • No emails needed yet.
Freshman — 9th Grade
  • End of your first spring season: start email outreach.
  • Quarterly emails in a coach's season, monthly out of season.
  • Build your CommitU target list. Follow programs & coaches on X, post highlights and tag them.
  • D1 coaches can't respond until August 1 of junior year — but they see your name every time you email.
Sophomore — 10th Grade
  • Verified metrics are now critical — know your gaps and close them. Protect your GPA.
  • Spring high school ball matters. Keep attending showcases.
  • Email monthly minimum, up to every two weeks from May through July.
  • D2 coaches can contact you starting June 15 after sophomore year. D1 still can't until August 1.
May before Junior Year
Most active period begins
  • Ramp up outreach intensity — have your Easy Campaign ready.
  • This is when serious recruiting activity starts. Don't wait until August 1 to be active.
🚧 August 1 before Junior Year
The date everything changes
  • The most important date in baseball recruiting. D1 coaches can communicate with players for the very first time.
  • This is a hard wall — before today, D1 coaches cannot initiate or respond to ANY recruiting communication.
  • Have your Easy Campaign ready to fire. If you've emailed for two years, coaches already know your name — you're prepared.
⚡ Two years of CommitU outreach + activity tracking means you walk into August 1 with coaches who already recognize you.
September 1 — Junior Year
  • Official and unofficial campus visits begin.
  • Off-campus contact by coaches begins.
Junior Year — 11th Grade
  • The most active recruiting year for most players. Respond to every coach inquiry quickly.
  • Keep sending follow-ups to non-responsive schools.
  • Verbal commitments can happen any time — no rule limits when you can verbally commit.
2nd Wednesday of November — Senior Year
Early signing period opens (D1 & D2)
  • Sign your Written Offer of Athletics Aid (replaced the NLI in October 2024).
  • Most Power 4 commitments sign here.
Senior Year — 12th Grade
  • D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO recruiting continues through spring.
  • Keep sending film — a strong April outing changes things.
JUCO — No Signing Day
  • No contact-period restrictions for JUCO coaches — they can reach out and you can commit any time.
  • A legitimate two-year path to D1.
The contact rules that matter
D1: No communication until August 1 before junior year — both directions, a hard wall.
D2: Coaches can contact you starting June 15 after sophomore year.
D3 / NAIA / JUCO: No contact restrictions — reach out any time.
