It depends on the sport, and the dates are further apart than most families expect. In baseball, D1 coaches cannot contact players until August 1 before junior year. In softball, the D1 date is September 1 of junior year. In volleyball it is EARLIER than both: June 15 after sophomore year. D2 opens on that same June 15 date for off-campus contact and official visits, and D3, NAIA and JUCO coaches have no restrictions at all.
Yes. Players can email coaches at any time in any of the three sports — the restriction is on when a D1 coach may respond, not on when you may write. Your emails are building name recognition even before coaches can reply. CommitU shows you when coaches open your emails and view your Resume — you are not flying blind.
